ashley & troy // engaged

I’ve been excited about posting these images for a few weeks now because there is soooo much to like about Ashley & Troy…and about their pics too! Ashley was a bridesmaid in Emma & Danny’s weddingalmost 2 years ago, and apparently has stalked my blog ever since. Pretty flattering to say the least! It gets better :) Troy planned a day for engagement portraits, and Ashley thought her sister was going to be the photographer. I pulled up to the location and was getting my gear ready, Ashley recognized me and said hi, but she had no idea that I was going to be the one photographing for them. She just thought it was a pretty big coincidence that I happened to be in the same place, at the same time, and for the same purpose as they were. I played along for a few minutes before telling her that her sister couldn’t make it and I would be filling in. I’m glad she didn’t mind the swap :) It feels kind of weird being the surprise, but it was certainly fun to be a part of it!

Andrew is officially my last senior I got to photograph in 2011, and we certainly went out with a bang! Andrew is an incredible golfer…I only know this because everyone at the club we went to knew him by name…AND he has a scholarship to the #1 golf team in the country. Ya, kid is good. Sweet mustang, awesome light = epic photos. I’m also very very fond of the 2nd to last photo, one of my favorite portraits ever! So excited to get it printed big and displayed how I would present it. Thank you Andrew!

brooke + rick // wed

I’ve known Brooke & Rick for a few years now. It all started back when I was part of a big contest to give away an amazing engagement prize to one lucky couple. All over Tucson, by the thousands, people submitted their love story to the local news channel for a chance to win an all expense paid engagement package. It included a lot of amazing goodies, including a very expensive and beautiful Tacori diamond ring. The one rule was, that if you were selected to win, you had to propose to your fiance. That is precisely what Rick did, and I was there to document their proposal. Fast forward 2 years later, Brooke & Rick got married last month and it was one of the most special, loving, emotional and fun weddings I’ve ever experienced. Their love is so apparent, and they were surrounded by many friends and family that shared the same feelings. This is a wedding that I will always remember. Brooke, Rick, THANK YOU.

Workflow Christmas Sale!

Another post for Photographers:

It’s been almost a year since we our Workflow DVD and we’ve heard a ton of great feedback from photographers who are saving hours every time they edit a shoot.  We love hearing that!  Because of the amazing value of the instruction and the goodies from our awesome sponsors (every buyer gets a $100 BRI gift card, Motibodo and ProPhoto discounts and much more), we have never had a sale before…until now.

Kristina had a lot of great ideas that she wanted to try and it was a total home run!  We used a beautiful stage at the Temple for Music & Art and then headed to the Tubac area for more “woodsy” type portraits.  The light was BEAUTIFUL…wow, just amazing.  Thank you Kristina!

Genesis: Chapter 3

This post is for photographers, but it’s not a bad read either :)

I feel so incredibly lucky, dumbfounded, excited and incompetent to be part of something so incredible. Genesis, a worskhop by photographer, for photographers, is one of the very few workshops I have ever heard of that I feel honest in being able to recommend to photographers. I’ve never really had a chance to recommend it to others because it sells out in a mere few hours…but, it’s put on by some of my very dear and good friends. Sam Hassas, Tony Hoffer & Melanie + Jeff Mansfield.  Having known them for years and understanding their expertise in what they do, this is a workshop that brings substance, value and legitimate educational value to any photographer looking to up their game. The only thing different now is that I’m part of it – teaching, sharing my meager knowledge with hungry photographers. No pressure right?

I really LOVE getting to work with seniors that incorporate talents and hobbies into their portraits.  Jordan is a fantastic softball player and knows how to intimidate!  We also took some portraits at a new location for me…cool bridges, rocks, streams and trees – all things that are NOT common around here :)  Thanks for trying something new Jordan and TOTALLY rocking it!

sonya + eliezer // tucson wedding

Wow. Thats really all that comes to my mind whenever I think of this wedding. They wouldn’t stop smiling, kissing, loving each other. The day was filled with lots of family, friends, laughter, tears, fun, and a lot of love. This is a real wedding, with real people, and I enjoyed every single second of it. Thank you guys for trusting my vision and allowing me to be part of your day!

One more session from the Benson area, Liz is a terrific soccer player and loves the outdoors.  I tried something a little more bold and intense, and I think I like it.  So did she.  Thanks Liz!

I think Taylor was a little nervous her portraits wouldn’t be amazing, and boy was she wrong :)  Another great outdoor session near the Sabino Canyon area, finished off with some southwest ranch style portraits.  The light later in the day really gave some great pastel colors, which accented well with her wardrobe!  Thanks Taylor for some being an awesome model!

Sharon is very natural in front of the camera, I don’t think she took a bad picture once!  Another set of AWESOME portraits, thank you Sharon!

Roby = awesome.  I had a great session and SUPER excited about a new location I’ve been wanting to try in the downtown area.  I LOVE parking garages…if you didn’t know that yet.  Roby is sweet, kind, confident and beautiful.  Thank you Roby!

erin + dean // engaged

Erin + Dean are FUN.  They are madly in love, and they know how to joke around and laugh, a LOT.  Downtown tucson is always a great place, but I’m really really glad we were able to try a new spot on Mt. Lemmon which was just absolutely gorgeous!  Really excited for their wedding this coming spring, can’t wait!  Thanks Erin & Dean!

chantelle // senior

I was super excited for Chantelle’s portraits the minute she came to the studio and told me some of her interests. The graffiti idea was a hit and was executed better than I could have honestly hoped for! We spent the rest of the time down on the 4th avenue area and just had a blast with new and interesting stuff. Thanks for being so awesome!

TaylorD-042

taylor // senior

I think that Taylor was a bit reserved before we started her senior portraits.  In fact, I think MOST seniors feel this way…that is until I take their portraits :)  Taylor didn’t realize how awesome her portraits would be, and when I showed her one of the first ones on the back of the camera, she was sold :)  She is also a killer volleyball player!  I’m glad we got a chance to capture that and be a bit different with it.  Thanks Taylor!

nicole + brian // wedding

It has been a few months since I’ve done a wedding in Tucson, but, it’s fall and that means its wedding season in Tucson.  It was supposed to be a bright beautiful day, but we did get some rain clouds, and even showers, right when the ceremony was supposed to start.  Nicole & Brian were both calm and collected, nothing was going to phase them!  However, I secretly wanted to shoot in the rain :)  The thought shooting a ceremony in the rain would be uber romantic…but thats me!  I can’t believe how much FUN both of them have together.  It’s very clear that they are in love, AND are the perfect match for each other!

NatalieG-047

natalie // senior

I had an awesome and fun time with Natalie out in the Benson area.  Many laughs were had with her and her sister, and I’m just in love with these images!  We got rained (hailed) out the first time we were planned for her portraits, but this day was just absolutely perfect!  Thanks again Natalie!

ColleenB-035

colleen // senior

Colleen is an extremely talented pianist, and I even got to use my own piano for a shoot!  We went to Sonoita to visit her family’s ranch house, and oh my Sonoita is sooooo beautiful!  Mountains, fields, everything was just absolutely gorgeous.  We even got to escape to some cooler weather and had a blast down there.  Thanks Colleen (and mom) for an awesome time!

emily // senior

Emily has an amazing talent for dance.  Not only is she great with jazz, but her ballet skills are just incredible!  I think “pointe” is one of the most amazing things humans can do, and Emily rocks it big time.  We started in a wash, a perfect clash to a beautiful ballet dancer, then went downtown and finished up at her school for some more dance portraits.  I must say, I kind of want to go see a ballet thanks to her!  Thanks again Emily!

You might be wondering if the volleyball net was really out in the middle of no where.  Yes, of course it was :)  I had an awesome time making some fabulous portraits for Jessika.  Her parents are the nicest ever, they came out on set up a net so we could get some fun, different, yet awesome portraits with her passion: volleyball!  Thanks so much for a great time!

Hannah is an another hardcore softball player- complete with a recent injury. But you would never guess with such awesome pictures! We had a blast in Benson, AZ where we found some totally awesome abandoned train cars. Thank you, Hannah, for such a great session!

MichaelT-047

michael // senior

Michael is an awesome senior from Benson who loves photography and technology. We explored downtown Tucson and found some awesome new locations! It was another warm summer day as we roamed the streets, but it was worth it. We got great pictures and had a great time!

JordanJ-035

jordan // senior

Jordan is an awesome senior who has lived in Saudi Arabia most of her life and now goes to school in New Hampshire. She came all the way to Tucson for her portraits! We had a great time and great weather at Tanque Verde Guest Ranch and then headed down town and ended the day with a classic Arizona sunset! Thanks, Jordan!

MakaylaM-048

makayla // senior

Makayla is another hardcore softball player and LOVES to dress up!  We had a great time east of Benson, AZ creating some fun portraits that really capture her personality and style.  Makayla has a bright future ahead with a full-ride scholarship playing softball as a pitcher…she is pretty freaking good at it too.  Best of luck on your final HS season Makayla!
