I love these guys.  They just fit so well together and are oozing with love and spontaneity, its too cute :)  We had an awesome afternoon at the Ritz Carlton Dove Mountain golf club.  It’s a gorgeous place and the weather was simply amazing.  Can’t wait for their wedding this fall at the resort!

ashley + troy // wed

It’s hard to write so little because there is so, so much to say.  Much of it really isn’t mine to say either, so I’ll leave it with this: Ashley + Troy are one incredible couple.  By saying that they have really been through a lot together would be a serious understatement.  The amount of personal sacrifice and hardship that people go through in life hopefully equates to greater appreciation for life’s joys and blessings…and Ashley + Troy are the epitome of happiness, joy, kindness, love and respect…all with great abundance.  It truly was a special honor for me to participate in such an amazing event for both of them.  I knew that they would be an incredible couple to photograph ever since Troy surprised Ashley with an engagement session, and it just so happened to snow that day.  Coincidence?  I think not.

nicole + brian // wedding

It has been a few months since I’ve done a wedding in Tucson, but, it’s fall and that means its wedding season in Tucson.  It was supposed to be a bright beautiful day, but we did get some rain clouds, and even showers, right when the ceremony was supposed to start.  Nicole & Brian were both calm and collected, nothing was going to phase them!  However, I secretly wanted to shoot in the rain :)  The thought shooting a ceremony in the rain would be uber romantic…but thats me!  I can’t believe how much FUN both of them have together.  It’s very clear that they are in love, AND are the perfect match for each other!

Spring weddings in Tucson are always just awesome, and nothing says “Tucson” like the Tanque Verde Guest Ranch: a dude ranch nestled into the Saguaro National Monument East (think of a forest, but except trees, big Saguaro cacti everywhere).  Cool, comfortable weather and a lot of really great people to be around, it really makes my job such an awesome experience even through a 12-hour day.  The girls started getting in the VERY early morning, I think before 6am, don’t know how they did it and last well close to midnight partying just as hard as everyone else.  Such a fun day, full of emotion, laughter and just great people.  Thank you Heather & Brady!

jessica + erick // prescott engagement

Jessica and Erick are such a rad couple.  Their photos are equally as rad, so after looking at their set below you will understand just how rad they are.  Prescott is a special place for them where they get out of Phoenix to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery, and I must say, I don’t blame them!  This is my third session in Prescott in the past 2 months and every time I go I just love it there.  Small, quaint, charming and the weather is just awesome.  I also LOVE doing new things and going to new locations for sessions, and they had an awesome idea for an older style playground at an old elementary school.  Man, this has some playground equipment that I remember playing on when I was little . . . and it totally fit their personality: young, fun and free.  Can’t wait for their wedding which will be at the awesome Tubac Golf Resort!

Stephanie & Fabian | UofA Engagement

I get the coolest locations. Period. End of story. I also get the coolest couples in the whole world. Stephanie & Fabian happen to be one of them. You don’t even need to know them to realize how cool they are, just check out their pics! Fabian works at the UA and hooked us up with some sweet access to the famous McKale center and also the UA Football stadium. Our expectations were high, but unfortunately we ran into some pitfalls: 1. McKale was setup for a Volleyball game later that evening, so it wasn’t nearly as fun as it could have been :( 2. Football stadium had just been fertilized, so there was a tarp covering the field :( 3. We had very short amounts of time at each location :( Good thing was, we didn’t need anything more because they both brought their A game.

There are a lot of pictures that I cannot necessarily post because I am also restricted on not posting any photographs that contain any official UA logos and other UA Sports paraphernalia. They are getting married in April and I CANNOT WAIT.

First off, any true Wildcat fan should recognize the signature on this ball. In fact, this was a hall-of-fame signature studded ball for sure! Which one is worth more, the ring or the ball?

Valerie & Steve | Mesa Wedding, Wright House, Tucson Reception

Boy have I been excited to post these. Many of you might have seen a couple photo tweets with some teasers, but I had such a blast working with Valerie & Steve on both their engagement portraits (at the Tucson Ritz-Carlton) and now with their awesome wedding. The temperature had cooled down the week before their wedding, but the day of their wedding our wonderful sun had to rear its nasty hot flares in our direction. It was bright and got hot very quickly . . . but their pics were definitely hotter! They were married at the Mesa LDS Temple in Phoenix and then shortly thereafter a wonderful luncheon was provided at The Wright House, which was my first time at this venue. Very Victorian and romantic setting for a great reception (or luncheon in this case). Awesome interiors and cool courtyard = win!

After some great frames at the Wright House, we traveled back to Tucson for an evening reception at a local chapel. A very fun and very unique wedding day for me! Congrats again to Valerie & Steve!

For the photographers, this wedding set was processed almost entirely with Presetopia Presets v2 which just came out this week! Make sure you grab your copy while they are on sale. Sale ends Nov 9th!

LOVED this exit shot, sooooo hot!

I normally don’t post formals, but I thought I’d post this as a demo/lesson about lighting. The 2 pictures here are nearly identical, taken within 2 seconds of each other. The one on the left is “natural” light, meaning only ambient light was used. The one on the right used “artificial” light (known as a flash) to enhance the scene. Both are great portraits in my book. BUT, it just goes to show how lighting can dramatically change the mood or feel of a portrait. The one on the right required a VERY powerful flash, which most photographers I know shooting these days don’t care to lug around. It’s not needed, but, every photographer should know why they are lighting their portraits the way they are!

Studio Shots! Open House Aug 27th

Was a little bit in a hurry Saturday evening when I decided to take some quick pics of the new studio setup. It is nearing completion of all the small details still left. There is still some furniture and decorations that needs to be put in and some definite cleaning to make it perfect for the Open House! I am trying to send invitations to everyone, but just in case you do not receive one, here are the details:

I hope everyone that wants to come is able to do so! If you are a prospective or new client and just want to stop in and say hi, please come on by! Amanda & Jason are wed! | Saddlebrooke Wedding in Tucson Arizona

It was a very emotional day full of smiles, tears, laughs and hugs.  A day I will not soon forget.  I have been so honored to have known the Dillon family and all that I have been able to do with them, and now seeing Amanda & Jason is just thrilling to say the least.  Many of you will remember their historic engagement session where they just tore it up!  Check out their awesome engagement post to relive their awesome pics!  http://www.spencerboerup.com/blog/archives/238

Their wedding was at the beautiful Saddlebrooke Wedding venue, one of the very coolest venues, in my opinion, in all of Tucson.  Lots of beautiful window lighting, HUGE ceilings and just a great all around place!  Every minute of the day was just awesome, and although it was a long one, it was very invigorating and refreshing to be with a couple so in love with each other.  Congratulations again Amanda & Jason (and to your new families!), I can’t wait to photograph the little kiddos :)

WARNING: LOTS OF AWESOME IMAGES!!!

Awesome skies the entire day, can’t complain with that!

Check out that ROCK!

WOW!  Instant heart-throb, she is smokin’ in this one!  Looks like a top model to me . . .

My assistant Kyle grabbed these 2 great details

Another WOW!

Guys just couldn’t contain themselves, so much that they . . .

almost ran me over!

I loved this one how her dress is all poofed up, she looks like a Disney princess here!

Another great grab by Kyle, Amanda was so excited about all the people come she was always gazing out the windows to see the commotion :D

It was contagious after a bit apparently

Jason became very emotional as he saw his beautiful bride for the first time coming down the aisle

Another great shot by Kyle

Jason couldn’t keep that smile off his face the entire day!

Another great detail by Kyle

The Dillon’s are VERY proud and happy parents :)

If you look past their awesome beauty, you’ll see a small family of deer in the background, haha!

B&G FTW!

I love a couple that isn’t afraid to be goofy and have a lot of fun!

Surprise gift from Amanda’s family to Jason . . . is that Nacho Libre?

Dance shot FTW!

Just STUNNING!

I love the bubble exit, so awesome!

Valerie & Steve – Ritz Carlton Engagement Portraits

Well, many people were impressed that I got to shoot at the Tucson Airport with unlimited access to anywhere I wanted to shoot. Well, I think I might have almost topped that this week! I got special corporate clearance from the Ritz Carlton in Tucson, and I had full access to the Championship golf course and club house, the entire afternoon with NO ONE ELSE THERE. Yes, you read it: full access to a world class golf facilities with an awesome couple, amazing lighting, and a large can of awesomeness. Only time limited our creativity, but boy was it an opportunity. Valerie & Steve were a blast to work with and look forward to their wedding come August! We started out in the downtown area for a little bit, then headed to the Ritz golf club and had a blast. Tiger Woods has won the Championship Match Play Tournament at this course a number of times . . . this place was EXACTLY like you would see in the really high-end magazines and stuff . . . top notch! I hope that someday I can go back, but I doubt I’ll get that kind of opp again. NOTE: You never know where you’ll get here in Tucson if you just drop my name :) Thanks again Valerie & Steve, you’re the bestest!

Mt. Lemmon – Michele & Terry | Arizona Wedding Photography

I was up on Mt. Lemmon 2 times in the past week, and each time was just absolutely beautiful. The weather is amazing, and it is a fairly pleasant drive (if you are the one driving . . . I got a little carsick while I was passenger). It’s a nice break from the Tucson heat for sure, but most importantly for Michele & Terry, it was the start of a new relationship. Terry popped the question to Michele almost 2 years ago at the Iron Door at the very top of Mt. Lemmon at Ski Valley. Quaint restaurant for sure (I went back a week later and their food was awesome), and the staff was very accommodating to allow us to photograph on the location! We didn’t spend too much time indoors, but we had a ton of fun outdoors for sure. Terry’s Harley is so rad . . . it has soul, a big whopping loud soul too :) They are getting married this coming Friday, I bet they are sure excited and can’t wait to see them again!

I love it when clients can let loose and have a little fun!

Amanda & Jason | continued . . . Tucson Airport Engagement Portraits

Well after the awesome day with Amanda & Jason on Saturday where the emotions were high, I wasn’t sure how yesterday was going to turn out.  Mainly because it was going to be hard to top the experience and photos that we took during the actual engagement, the amazing security clearance that was given to create photos on the airplane and the Tarmac and other awesome places.  Well, yesterday was a home run (no pun intended).

We started at a downtown location and took some fun portraits, but the real fun began when we were able to go over to Hi Corbett field and have the entire field to ourselves.  What can I say, I guess my name has some clout and people allow me to do some pretty cool things if I just ask for it :) (Thanks a TON Eric, it totally made everything awesome!)  Anyway, it was the most beautiful day this week and it made for some pretty awesome portraits.  Amanda & Jason were just bubbling with fun, love and awesomeness the entire time, and you can tell in the photos below.  Thanks again you guys, I’m so honored to have been part of so many special things for you guys and can’t wait for the wedding!

Mom’s love these kind of pictures :)

tucson airport wedding photography engagement hi corbett field arizona portraits

Everyone at the Southwest gate was so gracious and accommodating, it made for some cool opportunities for sure!

tucson airport wedding photography engagement hi corbett field arizona portraits

So, here is Jason.  Jason is getting ready to ask Amanda to be his wife.  It was a tricky task, but it was pulled off flawlessly (in my opinion).  We had been taking portraits atop the stairs (in the next photo), and we needed to create a diversion that would force Amanda to stay up stairs while Jason got his flowers and sign.  Scott, Amanda’s brother, had come and was hiding ninja-like the entire time waiting for the drop-off.  We made Amanda change her shirt, 2 times, so that we would be ready for her when she came down the escalator.

A lot of the airport personnel watched along, and as soon as Amanda said yes, they all clapped.  It was one of those “awwwww” kind of moments :)

andi & tony | tubac golf resort wedding photography

I had a super awesome wedding this past Saturday, it was the first time I had been to the Tubac Golf Resort. Totally amazing! Such a beautiful location, lots of amazing scenery and amazing hospitality from the staff. It was very top notch. To top it off I had such an amazing couple to work with, I was honored to be part of their day. In fact I knew Tony and a lot of his friends from high school, old times . . .

It was a hard to take a bad photograph because the weather and lighting could not have been so amazingly awesome. God definitely blessed us with a beautiful earth and Saturday it looked amazing! I’ve got a lot of photos to post so bear with me, I just loved so many of them! Thanks again Andi & Tony, I wish you the very best!

Emma & Danny – Mesa & Tucson Wedding Photography

As many of you know already, Emma & Danny were married this past weekend in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple, and their reception and ring-ceremony followed afterwards in Tucson at the Westward Look Resort.  It was the first time I had been to Westward Look and boy was it fun!  The post below shows how much fun it was, if you didn’t see the photobooth madness!  It was such a pleasure working with their families, everyone was so outgoing and easy to work with!  There’s quite a buzz circling the facebook pages, gotta check it out if you have not yet!

Katie & Dennis

I’m blogging here from chilly SLC with quite a bit of snow outside.  Wish I had the Tucson weather, which was amazing this past weekend!  These last weeks in December are always my busiest and this weekend was no exception.  I had an awesome opportunity to work with Katie & Dennis and their engagement portraits.  We started downtown, meandered around some of the interesting parts and then concluded the session at the UofA campus.  Weather was perfect and we had a blast (atleast I did!!)

Katie & Dennis are getting married this coming April @ the Stillwell House (this is where Jessica was married in October, pics from Stillwell House).  I’m super excited about working with them and can’t wait till the wedding!  Thanks again Katie & Dennis, you guys really made my weekend awesome!

Crystal & Todd!

Big kudos to Crystal & Todd for a fun day on Tuesday! We headed over to Trail Dust town for some fun portraits, made a quick stop at Long John’s (yes, the fast food joint, you’ll have to ask them all about it!) and then stopped off at the Tanque Verde Guest Ranch to finish up their engagement session.

Beautiful day for some awesome portraits, and their fun and laughter was just contagious :P   For all you photographers, processing was done with my own LR presets, Presetopia.com for details.

Crystal & Todd are getting married on probably the best day of the year . . . Feb 21 . . . my birthday :)   Thanks again guys, it was a lot of fun!

Arlene & Christo – Hindi Style!

I was honored to be a part of Arlene & Christo’s big day.  They have been planning for quite some time and it seemed that everything just fell into place at the very right moments!  I was particularly excited to photograph this wedding because I knew that their outfits, the decorations, food and guests were all going to be superb . . . and I was not let down!  They had their ceremony at their home, and then we headed over to Agua Caliente park for some group and formal portraits.  I’m extremely delighted to say that it was a beautiful day, the stars had aligned (literally, it was a significant day for them) and everything was as smooth as the music :)

Thanks again Arlene & Christo, it was a blast to work with you guys!

Jessica & Josh | Downtown Tucson Engagement Portraits

I had a super-awesome e-session (engagement session for photographer lingo!) downtown yesterday with Jessica & Josh.  I’ve been super excited to finally work with them since we met back in May.  Their wedding is in about 1 month from now which I can’t wait for as well!  Although it was nice weather, I was hoping for a little bit of sunlight, but the clouds loomed ominously overhead the entire time.  One of my biggest dreams is to shoot in some heavy rain . . . but we didn’t get to that yesterday.  They were both so comfortable and relaxed, it made my job look easy!  You guys rocked my day yesterday!

PS: thanks to my friend Travis for getting some behind-the-scenes shots of me working.  Always fun to see myself in a different perspective!

Me in action here (I need a haircut, wow!):

New Album Design – Melissa & Jonathan! Arizona Inn Wedding in Tucson Arizona

I know you are all dying for something new as my blog page has been pretty sparse lately.  Well, you’re probably not . . . but I’d like to think so :)   It has been a busy summer with a number of weddings and many portraits in between, and I’m now just getting caught up with everything.  I wanted to share a recent album design from Melissa & Jonathan’s wedding back in April!  This will be a GraphiStudio album (custom albums hand crafted in Italy) and I can’t wait for it!  They are going to be blown away these are so awesome.  But, most of the awesomeness of a great album comes from a great designer (blatent plug here!).

Thanks for looking, and enjoy!

Jennifer & Scott – Salt Lake City Wedding Photography

I have been a little behind on posting these pictures, but I just couldn’t wait any longer!  Jennifer & Scott were married on June 24 in the Salt Lake City temple, and it was just a beautiful day.  We actually took all of their fun pictures the night before so that we were not sweating the day of the wedding in the heat!  Boy was it a good idea because their night pictures were just awesome.  It was especially fun to be with them at this location because that is where I was married, 2.5 years ago!  Time flies . . .

The reception followed the evening of the wedding day and it was just a gorgeous room with lots of character and fun details.  The food was great (especially the pie buffet!)  Now, back to designing more albums . . .

Destination: St. Croix, USVI | Wedding in Virgin Islands

If I could sum up the experience I had this past week into one word, that would be impossible; but the closest I can get is “unforgettable”. It truly was an amazing experience to shoot with Amber & Carraig for such a special occasion, and it such a meaningful place. Amber grew up there and had not been back in 17 years, so it was an honor to be there with them and her family. St. Croix is a beautiful place, but much different that I had anticipated. Not different in a bad way, just different.

The first thing that Carraig let me know was that everything moves at a slower pace on the island . . . much slower (except for the traffic, where speed limits are ignored). Food is prepared slower, your bags at the airport are released at a lethargic pace, it’s just a very laid back (as you can imagine an island vacation should be like!) community. I had pictured in my mind, and from online photos, that it would have been somewhat like what I see in one of my favorite TV shows, LOST. Close, but not quite. It did have a very fascinating rainforest part, but quite interesting was that the other part of the island was somewhat like a desert. The beaches had lots of lava-rock on them, but the water was as clear as you see in the pictures! Aqua green and you can easily see 20-30ft down without a problem! Coral lined the shores like it was nobody’s business. The architecture is very old, leftover from the Danish when they owned the island (don’t quote me on this, I’m no historian by any means). It was fascinating though! There were a bunch of old sugar mills left from back in the day when harvesting sugar cane was the big thing to do, now they were left empty as tourist attractions. Other ruins dotted the island (as you’ll see from the photos).

One other special thing for me was that I found out that my Great-great-great-great grandfather had lived on the island when he was in the Royal Danish army, back in like the 1840s or something. Although I didn’t get to tour the Fort where he was stationed, I’ll be sure to do so when I return in January for the wedding. We did get a neat and special tour of the main Government building of the island, and the Royal Ballroom, now that was neat.

I was able to drive across the entire island, so I guess it’s safe to say that I saw just about everything, almost all of the beaches as well (the island isn’t that big). It was a lot of work, but well worth the price to have been able to create such beautiful photographs for Amber & Carraig. Thanks again you two!

Cheryl & Josh – Downtown Tucson Engagement Portraits in Arizona

What do you get when you combine an awesome couple, super cool location, great lighting and lot’s of energy? You get Cheryl & Josh’s engagement pictures! We headed downtown for what was going to be a moderately warm day, but the only thing that stayed hot was the couple! They didn’t stop, just one awesome picture after the other. We even had to stop and take a water break, it was that much fun! We just kept on walking around and found some of the coolest locations, like graffiti walls, abandoned buildings, parking garages and much more. If you know Cheryl or Josh, be sure to let them know how much you liked their photos!

Virginia Tech & Radford | Wedding Engagement Photography in Virginia

Although this week involved little sleep, long hours of flight and sore shoulders from hauling all of my gear through the airport, I would do it again in a heartbeat! I had a blast with Jennifer & Scott for their engagement photos, who are getting married this coming June. I might be a little biased as she’s my sis-in-law, but I think their engagement photos are the most romantic pictures to date :) Radford University and Virginia Tech University make great locations, and you can probably tell that Virginia is a bit greener than Arizona. Our family is really excited for them, and I’m just really excited about their photos.

I was surprised that the sun doesn’t set till around 8:20 there, so it was an interesting change! Enjoy . . .
