lindsey + brian // engagements

This is one of the only times I have ever been up to Mt. Lemmon for any kind of portraits.  Lindsey + Brian love the outdoors and we decided it would be a great location!  I need to come more often because it was just downright beautiful up there.  Fun + love always works out in the end, and I can’t wait to post their wedding images too!  Congrats to Lindsey + Brian!

jessica + erick // tubac golf resort

What a beautiful day it was, just incredible.  The weather, the details, the couple, the families, and the venue were all just awesome.  Hard to even describe, but, hopefully the images can give you a sense for how amazing everything was.  If you missed Jess & Erick’s engagement session, please check them out here! Ever since the first wedding I photographed at Tubac I fell in LOVE.  The environment is absolutely gorgeous, the weather is always perfect, the skies epic for some awesome portraits.  I’m always pushing myself to create unique portraits even though I’ve been to the same venue once (or multiple times) before.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!  Big thanks also to Jeff Ambrose for coming to assist and photograph the wedding with me!

leslie + patrick // american ranch, prescott

Wow. This wedding was just awesome from head to toe. It’s been longer than I would have liked to get these on the blog and share them, but in between travel, moving my apartment and studio (more details to follow) and unpacking and a whole lot of new sessions in between, I’m definitely behind on quite a few awesome sessions. Big thanks for Leslie & Patrick for allowing me to photograph their event. The amazing Christie Board planned the event so perfectly, I was in love with everything that they had put together. LOVE. Oh, ya, if you can’t tell, the American Ranch in Prescott is also an absolutely amazing venue for a beautiful wedding. It was raining all morning and into the mid afternoon, but a miracle came and sunshine was bountiful during the reception and all till sundown. Couldn’t have been better timing :)

Leslie & Patrick are both just amazing individuals with a bright future ahead of them. During the reception we all got to hear about them through speeches and other events and I stand in awe of both of them; amazing families produce amazing children! They ended the night with some crazy dancing and they REALLY know how to party hard. Hope you enjoy their story as much as I did!

Jessica and Erick are such a rad couple.  Their photos are equally as rad, so after looking at their set below you will understand just how rad they are.  Prescott is a special place for them where they get out of Phoenix to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery, and I must say, I don’t blame them!  This is my third session in Prescott in the past 2 months and every time I go I just love it there.  Small, quaint, charming and the weather is just awesome.  I also LOVE doing new things and going to new locations for sessions, and they had an awesome idea for an older style playground at an old elementary school.  Man, this has some playground equipment that I remember playing on when I was little . . . and it totally fit their personality: young, fun and free.  Can’t wait for their wedding which will be at the awesome Tubac Golf Resort!

Prescott = cool (both in style and temp), original, quiant, awesome.  The drive was pleasant, not too far but good enough to relax and enjoy the beautiful Arizona scenery.  It was great getting a good tour of Prescott with Leslie & Patrick, we shot their engagement portraits in the historic downtown area and just had a blast.  Her original Mustang is freakin’ sweet.  I’m not a huge mustang fan, but her’s has a rumble to die for.  Their wedding is next month in a beautiful area of Prescott and I can’t wait.  Thanks again guys, see you both soon!

I shot some film with this set too, can you pick out the film vs digital shots?

Post-Wedding Portraits with Amanda & Jason

I had a great opportunity to work with one of my amazing couples from this summer in shooting some post-wedding portraits. I had set out to create one pic I had in mind while driving to the location, something very scenic, creative and warm. We headed just north of Tucson, back to Saddlebrooke for a 1 hour session.  The clouds provided an awesome addition to this one pic, hope you enjoy it! Thanks again Amanda & Jason!

Featured on TheKnot.com, Congrats Jessica & Josh!

TheKnot.com has been working on a featured listing of a bride & groom I photographed back in October 2008.  It was a very memorable wedding on many regards; beautifully arranged and decorated, wonderful accomodations at the Stillwell House, super awesome couple, and a reception party that could dance like they were dancing for a gold medal.  Congratulations again to Jessica & Josh!

To view their story you can visit TheKnot.com and read the full story. If you want to recap on their awesome pics, visit our blog post here.

Michele & Terry @ Westward Look

It’s hard to describe how much fun I have had working with Michele & Terry!  They might be older than most of my wedding clients, but boy do they know how to have fun and live life to the fullest!  The Westward Look now tops my favorite wedding venues in Tucson, mainly for the service and food.  Their food is absolutely the best in Tucson out of almost every restaurant I’ve ever eaten at.  Awesome, awesome stuff.  Plus, the place is beautiful and fun to work at.

I got lucky because the Palm Room, where they had their luncheon and “reception”, the lighting was absolutely eye-popping beautiful.  Couldn’t take a bad picture of them!  Hope you guys enjoy, and thanks again Michele & Terry!  You guys are so awesome!

Rene & Steve – Wildhorse Ranch

I know there has been much anticipation for this post, but I’m just as excited as all of you are! It was a fun day with a couple and family that is very much in love. Thankfully it wasn’t a hot one, although it could have been, but we were all quite lucky with that. It was my first time photographing an actual wedding at Wildhorse and overall I found it a charming and wonderful location. I had photographed part of Rene & Steve’s engagement session at the ranch and came to really enjoy the atmosphere. We also had a rockin BOOTH! in the background during the event, some pretty crazy and wild stuff! You can never have enough BOOTH! at your wedding :)

Thanks again Rene & Steve for letting me be a part of such a special day for your family!

Rene & Steve | Wildhorse Oasis Arizona Wedding

I know, I know, I’ve been very far behind on all my blog postings, but I’m just now getting back to some of my favorite shoots from the past couple of weeks.  I was able to work with Rene & Steve back in the beginning of March, so their photos are long due for a blog posting!  They are getting married in just over 2 weeks and I’m pretty stoked about it!

We started over at Wildhorse Ranch (where their ceremony and reception will take place) and it is a fun and charming location to work with.  Lots of character and beauty all around.  Since both Rene & Steve graduated from the UA, we thought it fitting to find some great locations and have some fun over on campus.  There are some pretty great locations there, some new favorites in here for sure!  I love being able to be creative and abstract with some of my work, yet still keep it full of fun and energy with my clients!  Thanks again Rene & Steve!

Amanda & Jason – True Engagement! | Arizona Wedding Photography

I had a first today, they don’t happen very often, but when they do I get excited. This was a first on many levels, but I’ll start with the love story I guess. Amanda & Jason met on a Southwest flight. They chatted and apparently fancied each other in some form and their conversation continued beyond the flight and into the Tucson airport where they stopped at a lounge for additional get-to-know-you opportunities. All that I know is that that friendship and relationship has now come to fruition into upcoming “I Do’s”. I had the great opportunity to photograph Amanda & her family a while back, and what a great family they have. I had heard rumors dating back almost 2 months ago that Amanda & Jason were getting a little serious about their relationship, and only hoped that I would be able to work with the Dillon’s again and photograph Amanda’s big day.

This rumor was supposedly on the down-low, even though they had already set a date, and hired me as the official photographer; all without a ring and a “will you?”   Well it happened today while we were taking their “pre-engagement” photos (pre because they weren’t really engaged until about a good 45 mins into the session). Jason, Scott (Amanda’s brother) and I had coordinated a special surprise for Amanda. It took a little trickery to get it pulled off just right, but it turned out amazing. Jason surprised Amanda with some roses, and got down on one knee to finally present her with a ring and pop the question for reals. Of course you can imagine what the answer was, but it was so amazing to be there for such a special moment.  Everyone clapped :)

Southwest Airlines watched along as it unfolded, and kindly enough one of the gate agents asked if we would like to go take some pictures in the gate area, on the plane and even the Tarmac. Let me put it this way, when someone offers you this kind of security clearance and a personal escort, you say “YES”. It was sure a lot of fun, and big thanks to all the Southwest Airlines personel, TSA, TAA and those that helped with everything. I know they will never forget the moment and how much fun it really was! I just wanted to share one picture . . . because they met on a Southwest Airlines flight, this was something that they connected with on many levels. Thanks again Amanda & Jason!

More pics to come!

Crystal & Todd | Feb 21 | Arizona Wedding Photographer in Tucson

As some of you blog stalkers might have noticed, I’m a little behind on the blog and galleries lately . . . not because I still don’t like you guys or think that your images are no long amazing, it’s just been busy. I’m grateful I can say that these days as I know many that are not! But, I had a super awesome wedding almost 2 weeks ago on probably the very best day of the year . . . Feb 21st. It was my birthday and no better way to spend it than working a 16hr day! Heck ya! (can you tell that I love my job yet?)

Anyway, I had a great time working with Crystal & Todd, it was just a lot of fun the entire time. You’ll also be able to check out their BOOTH shots near the bottom of the post (you don’t want to miss one of them, but I’m warning you now, its graphic). Crystal started the day getting ready at her parents home in the 49rs country club (such a beautiful home), their ceremony was down the street at the Kingdom Hall, and then we cruised down south to Cienega HS for their reception (very cool place for a reception I’ll tell you that!). It was a gorgeous day with awesome light, couldn’t have asked for anything better! Enjoy, I know you all have been waiting :)

This one has to be one of the BEST alltime funny kid photos!!  Classic!

Amazing light, holy wow!

This was our 2nd debut for our BOOTH . . . and it was just as crazy (if not crazier) than our original BOOTH setup!

DJ Warren B got in on some of the action here, helping save Todd from a bad headache I guess :P

OK, this one needs a CAUTION!!!  Not that their bellies are big and harry, but it’s the image directly after this one!!!  Warning, it’s a graphic image of these 2 fellows who appear to be vomiting their drinks into the trash.  You’ve been warned! It’s NOT for the faint at heart (or stomach) . . .

St. Croix, USVI Photography

Of course a photographer travels to an exotic island in the Caribbean to photograph an amazing wedding with an amazingly good-looking couple . . . and then doesn’t share the “other” pics. I do enjoy shooting landscapes, but I really just enjoyed the beauty of the island and relaxed. Of course this was a once in a lifetime opportunity to photograph such a beautiful place that I HAD to take my big camera and take some snaps. I love doing panoramas, as you’ll see at the bottom. I do hope that these give you a glimpse of the island of St. Croix in all it’s beauty. There is a lot to see, more to learn, and even more history that made this trip so memorable to me. A big thanks goes to Mr. Bidelspacher from the east end of the island for the historical information that he so willingly shared to me, that made me better enjoy my stay . . . immensely. Can’t wait to go back!

Something special that I learned prior to coming to St. Croix was that my great-great-great grandfather lived here when he was part of the Royal Danish army.  He later moved to Illinois and thats how part of my family came to the states.  It was meant to be that I go back and visit!

This is part of one of the larger intact ruins left from the Danes.  There are many many old sugar mill plantations on the island, some preserved and some not.

I took a snorkel tour to Buck Island, one of the most pristine beaches in the entire world (I’m not making that up either!)  JFK came to Buck island in the 60s and designated Buck Island the only National Underwater Park.  It is very well preserved and has some of the world’s best snorkeling.  I can tell you first hand it was absolutely AMAZING!  Below is the world famous “Turtle Beach”.

us virgin islands st croix landscape panorama photographs

This was taken from our sail boat of the very very east tip of Buck Island, right where the boat ‘docked’ and where we snorkeled for an hour.  The water is really that clear, there is no magic or tricks here, it was simply that amazing!

us virgin islands st croix landscape panorama photographs

Again, another from Turtle Beach, with a view of the north central part of the island, Christiansted.  I took a quick dive here, the water is absolutely amazing.  There were a bunch of small, clear transparent fish swimming everywhere.

A view of the east end of the island.  Just past those hills is the eastern most property of the USA.

Here is the south east bay.  Near here is the Divi Carina Resort/Casino.  You are looking at Grape Tree Bay, and on the very left side of the pic is where we shot Amber’s bridal pictures in the old, run-down resort hotel.

From atop a hill in the pic above you can see Isaac’s Bay, one of the less frequented beaches due to its accessibility.  On the other side of that hill is Jack’s Bay, supposed to be one of the most beautiful parts of the island.  It’s a good hike to get down there!

One last one from the other side of Turtle Beach on Buck Island.  Amazing day to take some pics!

Amber & Carraig: Wedding Photography in St. Croix, USVI

Well it’s taken me a while to finally prep and finalize Amber & Carraig’s complete wedding set.  3 days of working makes a lot of pictures, a lot of hard drive space, and a lot more time making them more awesome :)   A lot had to do with my frustrations with my computer giving me problems and errors left and right (PC), thus slowing down the process.  Ironically, using my Macbook while on the island was a fresh experience (long time PC user, but loving Mac more and more).  Combine PC frustrations + newfound Mac loving, and well, it makes you want to get a new Mac (coming soon . . .).  Enough of that talk, but more on their images.  Not much more to say, just enjoy the photos!

Tons of awesome details, awesome bling, relaxed expressions and a lot of fun.  Thanks again Amber & Carraig for letting me be part of something so special and intimate!

Brianna & Ricardo | Tucson Engagement Portraits

Brianna & Ricardo were the other new couple I had the chance to work with on Saturday. I always love working with new couples!!! We started at the UofA and then migrated down to the downtown area to finish up their engagement portraits. They seemed to nail their photos each time I took a picture, they must have studied up on my style or something . . .

Anyway, another awesome session with a super fun couple. They are getting married this coming September @ Hacienda Del Sol, of which I am really looking forward to! It’s a really nice place although I have never had the opportunity to shoot a wedding there yet. Thanks again Brianna & Ricardo, have a super Christmas!

Katie & Dennis

I’m blogging here from chilly SLC with quite a bit of snow outside.  Wish I had the Tucson weather, which was amazing this past weekend!  These last weeks in December are always my busiest and this weekend was no exception.  I had an awesome opportunity to work with Katie & Dennis and their engagement portraits.  We started downtown, meandered around some of the interesting parts and then concluded the session at the UofA campus.  Weather was perfect and we had a blast (atleast I did!!)

Katie & Dennis are getting married this coming April @ the Stillwell House (this is where Jessica was married in October, pics from Stillwell House).  I’m super excited about working with them and can’t wait till the wedding!  Thanks again Katie & Dennis, you guys really made my weekend awesome!

Fine-art Invitations

You don’t get any closer to being fine-art than these.  I have been wanting to create some really high-end super classy invitations for quite some time because they are really in a league of their own.  I have done thank-you cards before for families, but these are on the top of the high-end “invitation-food-chain”.  Printed on a high quality art linen paper, these are a classic 4 panel accordion fold.  Utilizing both sides, couples can elegantly display their beautiful engagement pictures along with their wedding invitations.  Amber & Carraig went the extra mile with an extra custom “Reception Card” to leave details for the reception.  This smaller card is the size of 1 single panel of the invitation, but this allows to have a magnet strip on the back so that the Reception information can be left on a fridge or bulletin board (or something magnetic).

All the invitations come with custom parchment style envelopes as well, enough for double envelopes if you wish as well.  So, if you know someone who wants an elite approach to their custom wedding announcements or invitations, just have them get in touch.  We will definitely hook them up.

Note: Photography and Announcement design done completely by myself :)

Here is the original design below, so you can see both sides:

Christmas in . . . September?

I recently uploaded some images to share of some new Albums I had received back from my album manufacturers so that people can get a feel for what our albums are all about.  Well, it’s been a busy year and I received a wonderfully large package from GraphiStudio (album company based in Italy, yes, Italy) full of all sorts of little goodies!  Chock full of albums and samples.

GraphiStudio provides one of the finest album services in the entire industry and you can tell when you hold one of their albums for the first time.  These 2 albums below had the same amount of pages, but have different album covers.  The first is a RED Aluminum cover with the bride & groom name etched into the metal (this isn’t some cheesy stuff, it’s the real deal here).  The second is a fine Italian-leather with the bride & groom name embossed / branded into the leather for a permanent fix.  Each GraphiStudio album is printed on true photographic-paper, and you’ll notice from the last sample image, that each spread lays entirely flat.  Through this binding process, you lose very little (if any at all) in the gutter of the book, thus being able to utilize one entire picture for a large 12×18″ print.  Very nice.

You can see the reflection (sort of) on the cover, this is real aluminum.

Each page is mounted on a thick board to help protect each page from bending and warping.

The spine wraps around the entire back of the book.  These are very well made and very rugged (but do take care of them still!)

Here you can see the laser etching.

I loved the ivory leather, very very awesome.  Also, notice the names embossed onto the cover.

This unique leather style cover is a mix of traditional, yet contemporary with the image window here.

Again, the image window shown.

Here is a great example of why these books are AWESOME.  Your beautiful album design does not get lost in the gutter of the book!

Tonie’s Album! Wedding Album for Arizona Wedding at Saguaro Buttes

I just finished the design for Tonie & Jason’s album last week and have been waiting to put them up to display.  I had the wonderful assistance of a talented digital scrapbook and designer, Meagan Turnidge, who helped me speed up my time so I can breathe a little more :)   After a couple of tweaks of “my style” of design it was near perfect.  I absolutely love it and can’t wait to get it back!  This will be another 60 page GraphiStudio album and it is going to be GORGEOUS.  You have to see these in person they are so amazing!

Anyway, their wedding was awesome and it was such an honor to work with them!  Thanks again Tonie & Jason, you guys rock!

Jennifer & Scott – Salt Lake City Wedding Photography

I have been a little behind on posting these pictures, but I just couldn’t wait any longer!  Jennifer & Scott were married on June 24 in the Salt Lake City temple, and it was just a beautiful day.  We actually took all of their fun pictures the night before so that we were not sweating the day of the wedding in the heat!  Boy was it a good idea because their night pictures were just awesome.  It was especially fun to be with them at this location because that is where I was married, 2.5 years ago!  Time flies . . .

The reception followed the evening of the wedding day and it was just a gorgeous room with lots of character and fun details.  The food was great (especially the pie buffet!)  Now, back to designing more albums . . .

Destination: St. Croix, USVI | Wedding in Virgin Islands

If I could sum up the experience I had this past week into one word, that would be impossible; but the closest I can get is “unforgettable”. It truly was an amazing experience to shoot with Amber & Carraig for such a special occasion, and it such a meaningful place. Amber grew up there and had not been back in 17 years, so it was an honor to be there with them and her family. St. Croix is a beautiful place, but much different that I had anticipated. Not different in a bad way, just different.

The first thing that Carraig let me know was that everything moves at a slower pace on the island . . . much slower (except for the traffic, where speed limits are ignored). Food is prepared slower, your bags at the airport are released at a lethargic pace, it’s just a very laid back (as you can imagine an island vacation should be like!) community. I had pictured in my mind, and from online photos, that it would have been somewhat like what I see in one of my favorite TV shows, LOST. Close, but not quite. It did have a very fascinating rainforest part, but quite interesting was that the other part of the island was somewhat like a desert. The beaches had lots of lava-rock on them, but the water was as clear as you see in the pictures! Aqua green and you can easily see 20-30ft down without a problem! Coral lined the shores like it was nobody’s business. The architecture is very old, leftover from the Danish when they owned the island (don’t quote me on this, I’m no historian by any means). It was fascinating though! There were a bunch of old sugar mills left from back in the day when harvesting sugar cane was the big thing to do, now they were left empty as tourist attractions. Other ruins dotted the island (as you’ll see from the photos).

One other special thing for me was that I found out that my Great-great-great-great grandfather had lived on the island when he was in the Royal Danish army, back in like the 1840s or something. Although I didn’t get to tour the Fort where he was stationed, I’ll be sure to do so when I return in January for the wedding. We did get a neat and special tour of the main Government building of the island, and the Royal Ballroom, now that was neat.

I was able to drive across the entire island, so I guess it’s safe to say that I saw just about everything, almost all of the beaches as well (the island isn’t that big). It was a lot of work, but well worth the price to have been able to create such beautiful photographs for Amber & Carraig. Thanks again you two!

Tonie & Jason – 5.10.08 | Saguaro Buttes Wedding Photography in Tucson Arizona

I had the wonderful honor to work with Tonie & Jason, their friends and family, on such an important occasion! They totally rocked the house and it was an awesome wedding. Beautiful dress, tons of love and friendship, wonderful weather, and the coolest 1st dance I’ve ever seen in my life. You seen the YouTube one? Theirs was way better!

The wedding was at the Saguaro Buttes in southeast Tucson on a wonderfully gorgeous afternoon. For all that attended, their photos are online at their gallery for viewing. Go to: www.spencerboerup.com/proofs and enter their password. Don’t have a password, email them :)
